"Nome Bush Mail"

Flight "Port Clarence Mail"...Nome (PAOM) to Port Clarence CGS (KPC): return to Nome.  (Tuesday, Saturday Service)
Port Clarence is a US Coast Guard Loran Station.  The runway is paved and lighted.  Just west of the airport is a 1,360 foot AGL tramsmission tower.  There is a off shore oil operation in the bay southeast, it is serviced from Teller.  Single or small twin a/c.

Flight "Moses Mail"...Nome (PAOM) to Moses Point (MOS), return to Nome.  (Sat only, between May 15th-Sept 1st)
This was once an Army Air Station, now a private airport owned by the Elim Native Corp. Alaska natives from Elim, setup a fishing village during the summer months. No service during winter months.  There is a FAA VOR transmitter on the airport and the FAA can charter use any time to do repair work on the VOR.  Use any single or small twin aircraft.

Flight "Granite Mountain Mail"...Nome (PAOM) to Granite Mountain AS (GSZ), return to Nome.  (Monday, Friday service)
This is a private airport own by the US Air Force, and used for training by the 611th Civil Engineer Squadron from Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage.  The airport is open from May 31st to October 1st, no winter operations. 3,925 foot paved, unlighted rwy.
Use any single or small twin aircraft.


Flight "Feather River Mail"...Nome (PAOM) - Feather River(3Z1) - Salmon Lake (Z81) - Basin Creek (Z47), return to Nome.
Flight Pln...Nome to Feather River, depart Nome at 1000, on a heading of 301 degrees, distance is, 26nm. Feather River area is one of the largest gold camp in the Nome area.
Feather River to Salmon Lake, depart on a heading of 063 degrees, dist. is, 29nm. Some summer cabin & prospecting for gold here. Good fishing for arctic grayling!
Salmon Lake to Basin Creek, depart on a heading of 191 degrees. dist. is, 16nm. Numerous gold camps in the area.
Basin Creek to Nome, depart on a heading of 184 degrees,  dist. is, 11nm.

Flight Pln...Nome to Council, depart at 0930, on a heading of 044 degrees, distance is 50nm.
Council to Candle, depart on a heading of 017 degrees, distance is 75nm.
Candle to Nome, depart on a heading of 208 degrees, distance is, 122nm.
Use any single or small twin aircraft. Twin Otter or CV-10 Bronco good choice in twin-engine type.

Good fishing in the creek and also numerous gold prospecting claims in the area.

Flight "Bear Creek Mail"...Nome (PAOM) - Haycock (HAY) - Bear Creek #1 (AK02), return to Nome.
Flight Pln...Nome to Haycock, depart Nome at 1000, on a heading of 050 degrees, distance is, 117nm.
Haycock to Bear Creek #1, depart on a heading of 346 degrees, distance is, 21nm.
Bear Creek #1 to Nome, depart on a heading of 222 degrees, distance is, 127nm.
Haycock and Bear Creek #1, are gold prospecting areas, but in early fall they offer good hunting.

Lost River #1 to Lost River #2:  Depart on a heading of 339 degrees, distance is, 4nm.
Lost River #2 to Buck Creek:  Depart on a heading of 309 degrees, distance is, 14nm.
Buck Creek to Nome:  Depart on a heading of 126 degrees, distance is, 85nm.
Lost River #1 and #2, are heavy mining areas. Buck Creek has several small mining claims.

"Anchorage Bush Mail"

Flight "Chistochina Mail"...Lake Hood Airstrip (Z41) - Sheep Mountain (PASP) - Gulkana (PAGK) - Chistochina (CZO):
You will be hauling by-pass mail, with stops at Sheep Mountain, Gulkana and Chistochina.
On your return to Lake Hood Strip, you only have to stop at Gulkana for outbound mail.
For safety reasons, follow the this VFR flight plan (Use your VOR & GPS). Depart Z41, then direct to Big Lake VOR (BGQ) 112.5, passing BGQ VOR, turn right  and fly 048 degrees From BGQ VOR. When your are 45 DME from BGQ, turn a little right and check your GPS as Sheep Mountain will be around 24 nm ahead of you. After you drop off and pickup mail, set your Nav1 to 115.6, Gulkana (GKN) VOR. Depart Sheep Mtn. on a northeasterly heading, then center your VOR to so it reads TO GKN VOR., Its about 30nm to Gulkana Airport. After dropping off mail, depart Gulkana Airport and fly a heading of around of 011 degrees to Chistochina, it is about 32 nm from Gulkana, and you will be following the Copper River all the way. Here you can take a lunch break.
Depart CZO and return to Gulkana, pickup outbound mail, then set your Nav1 to 114.3, Anchorage (ANC) VOR, depart Gulkana on a heading of about 219 degrees, and when able, center your VOR to read TO ANC VOR, its about 145 nm back to Lake Hood.

NOTE: No Service between Nov. 15 thru Jan.15.  WSM has a unlighted, 2,000 foot, gravel runway.
Take a break here and have a cup of coffee with Ole Clutch.  Alaska Oil Pipline pumping station.
Ole Clutch, is a prospector, and hangs out in Wiseman.  He does like drinking his moonshine.

Five Mile has a, lighted, 2,700 foot, paved runway. Trees both ends of rwy.  Oil Pipeline pumping station & supply depot.
Recommended A/C: C182, C206, C208, DHC-2, DHC-3, DHC-6, Navajo, Beech 18, PC-6, & PC-12

Flight No. "Coldfoot Mail"...Fairbanks (PAFA) -  Coldfoot (CXF):   Return to PAFA
Coldfoot has a lighted, 4,000 foot, paved rwy.  It is best to land on rwy-01, depart on rwy-19, because of high mountains.
This is a Alaska Oil Pipeline, pumping station, repair base, and a large supply depot.
Recommended A/C: C206, C208, DHC-3, DHC-6, Beech-18, Navajo, PC-12, DC-3, DC-4, & C130

Flight No. "Village Mail"...Fairbanks (PAFA) -  Stevens Village (SVS):    Return to PAFA
SVS, has a unlighted, 2,120 feet. gravel Rwy.  During winter months you may not make it in because of low light conditions.  It would be best to approach Rwy-25, as there are well lighted buildings on both sides of the runway.  Use your GPS, that's what it's for!!

Flight No. "Beaver Mail"...Fairbanks (PAFA) -  Beaver (WBQ):   Return to PAFA
WBQ, has a lighted, 3,950 foot, gravel based rwy.  Beaver is located on the banks of the mighty Yukon River.

PALR, has a unlighted 3,000 foot rwy, gravel based.  NDB near field, tune ADF to 263.
